Awards and Recognitions: Celebrating Excellence in PWHL
Natalie Spooner: PWHL MVP and Forward of the Year
Toronto's Natalie Spooner has been named the Premier Women's Hockey League (PWHL) Most Valuable Player (MVP) and Forward of the Year. Spooner led the league with an impressive tally of 20 goals and seven assists, setting a high bar for her competitors. Her exceptional performance saw her outshine New York's Alex Carpenter and Montreal's Marie-Philip Poulin.
Perhaps even more impressive is Spooner's journey back to the ice. After giving birth to her son at the end of 2022, Spooner did not skate for six months leading up to the season. This makes her achievements particularly remarkable. Despite facing a knee injury during the playoff semifinals, her resilience and skill were undeniable.
"I probably wouldn't have thought that it would have gone this way," Spooner admitted. "I think I was just super grateful to be playing again, to be back on the team. I was just really excited to get back out there with the girls, but I never thought that I'd be able to have, I guess, as big of an impact as I was able to have with the team."
Troy Ryan: Coach of the Year Leading Toronto to New Heights
In addition to Spooner's accolades, Toronto's Troy Ryan was named Coach of the Year. Under Ryan's expert guidance, Toronto achieved a league-high of 47 points during the regular season, bolstered by a remarkable 11-game win streak. Ryan's leadership has clearly been a cornerstone of the team's success.
Kristen Campbell: Goaltender of the Year
Kristen Campbell has earned the title of Goaltender of the Year. Campbell’s performance between the pipes was nothing short of spectacular. She achieved 16 wins and three shutouts, providing Toronto with a reliably strong defense throughout the season. Her consistency and skill were pivotal to the team's top standings.
Erin Ambrose: Defender of the Year
Montreal’s Erin Ambrose was honored as Defender of the Year. Over 24 games, Ambrose accumulated 18 points, demonstrating her prowess both in defending and in contributing to her team's offensive efforts. Her balanced play has made her a standout defender in the league.
Grace Zumwinkle: Rookie of the Year
Minnesota's Grace Zumwinkle was named Rookie of the Year, capping off an impressive debut season. Zumwinkle recorded 19 points over 24 games, showcasing her potential to become one of the league's future stars. Her outstanding performance has set a high bar for future rookies in the league.

This award celebrates individuals who have made significant contributions to the community and the sport through their volunteer efforts. Murphy's dedication to spreading the love of the game and her selfless service have earned her this distinguished honor.
