The Tennessee Titans are off to a dismal start in the 2024 NFL season, recording an 0-3 record after their latest loss against the Green Bay Packers. The defeat was particularly stinging, as the Packers capitalized on a shaky performance from the Titans to secure a 30-14 victory.
Quarterback Will Levis found himself under immense pressure, completing 26 of 34 passes for 260 yards and throwing two touchdowns. However, his performance was marred by two costly interceptions, one of which was returned for a touchdown. Levis also struggled with pass protection, being sacked an alarming eight times during the game.
"We've not played a complete game in any phase at any point yet," said Titans coach Brian Callahan, expressing his frustration post-game. His sentiments were echoed by the number of yards the Titans' defense conceded, giving up 378 total yards, including a hefty 188 rushing yards.
Despite the Titans' struggles, Levis is determined to lead his team to better performances. However, his five interceptions so far this season are concerning, making him second in the league for this unwanted stat. Additionally, Levis leads the NFL in turnovers, with three fumbles adding to his five interceptions.
Callahan emphasized the need for collective improvement, saying, "We're capable of way better than what we've put on the field the last three weeks. No one is coming to save us, so we've got to figure it out."
Unfavorable Start to the Season
The Titans' troubles began in Week 1 with a 24-17 loss to the Chicago Bears, followed by an identical 24-17 defeat to the New York Jets in Week 2. These early-season losses have set a troubling tone, leaving the team and fans searching for answers.
Callahan remains steadfast in his support for Levis, urging a team-wide effort to turn their season around. "Again, I'm not going to overreact to an interception. Those things happen. Guys throw picks. We just can't give it to the other team. We keep giving up points the other way. It's hard to overcome," Callahan noted.
The off-season saw significant changes for the Titans, with Mason Rudolph joining the team. Rudolph, who boasts a career record of 8-4-1 as a starter with 19 touchdowns and 11 interceptions, arrived as a potential competitor and mentor for Levis. Meanwhile, long-time quarterback Ryan Tannehill exited, currently navigating free agency.
Next Up: Miami Dolphins
Looking ahead, the Titans are set to face the Miami Dolphins, who also find themselves with a losing record at 1-2. This upcoming game could be a pivotal moment for the Titans to break their losing streak and find their footing in the 2024 season.
"We have to play better around him," Callahan stated, underlining the necessity for both offensive and defensive units to step up their game and support their embattled quarterback. The pressure is mounting, and all eyes will be on how the Titans respond.
For the Titans, the path to recovery seems fraught with challenges, but there remains a resolute belief within the team that they can turn things around. With experienced voices like Callahan steering the ship and a clear emphasis on collective improvement, the Titans are determined to fight their way back into contention.
