Furthermore, cornerback Marcellas Dial Jr., a sixth-round pick from South Carolina, will join an already solid cornerback group that includes Jonathan Jones and Gonzalez.
Dial, who played 38 games with 29 starts in college and recorded three career interceptions, expressed his excitement about joining the team. "To be the only defensive player is crazy," Dial remarked. His college coach, Clayton White, commended Dial's all-around abilities, stating, "He has the size, strength, and speed to play at that level. But more importantly, I think he brings the intangibles and the will. He's a great locker room guy, great team player and great special teams player, too."
Meanwhile, the Patriots have extended contracts with key players to retain veteran talent. Running back Rhamondre Stevenson received a contract extension with $17 million guaranteed, while center David Andrews secured an extension with $8 million guaranteed. Former Patriots linebacker Rob Ninkovich praised the team's approach, saying, "It's also an appreciation thing for a player who has performed well. I like what they've done with him and David [Andrews], which is something I'm not sure would have happened prior to this year."
